OPEN CALL: Oulu Writers Association invites Icelandic Writers for a Residency Period in September 2022

Oulu Writers Association announces an Open Call for Icelandic Writers to apply. The residency takes place in Liminka, Northern Finland, a serene and inspiring village near the Baltic sea shore. The residency programme is organized in collaboration with Oulu Writers Association and Liminka School of Arts.

Oulu Writers Association was founded in 2010. All its members are professional writers. Association maintain Oulu House of Literature and organizes events around the year. Association organizes literature festival Uusi kirjallisuusfestivaali (New Literature Festival Oulu) in 9.-10.9.2022. This is the seventh year. Festival is open-minded for different kind of books: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, comics and children’s books. We are in the city of Oulu with a population of 200,000. Oulu is the European Capital of Culture in 2026. 

The residency is located in Liminka, 30 kilometers South from the City of Oulu. Liminka School of Arts is the oldest community college in Finland, founded in 1892. Adult students study year or more in boarding school environment in one of the four departments, Fine Arts (painting, printmaking, sculpting), Comics and Animation, Theatre and Performing Arts and Free-form Studies. Liminka School of Arts is highly appreciated school that has produced many acknowledged professionals of contemporary art and comic.

We expect the residential artist to give an artist talk at Liminka School of Arts, Liminka library and New Literature Festival Oulu during the residency period.

Duration of the Residency

September 1 – September 30, 2022 (1.9.-30.9.2022)

What we offer

- Fee of 500 euros

- Accommodation in Liminka School of Arts

- Lunch during the school days in Liminka School of Arts

- Local bus card to travel between Oulu and Liminka

- Letter of intent

- CV

- Documentation of up to five previous works 

- Translations to another languages
